Washington, D.C. - Ford's Theatre

Ford's Theatre where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth.  Everything inside the theatre was renovated in 1964 and restored to its 1865 appearance.  The sofa and one parlor chair are all that remains as original.

Washington, D.C. - Washington Monument, WWII Memorial and White House

We could not tour the Washington Monument due to it's being closed indefinitely.  The monument suffered extensive damage after the 5.8 earthquake that occurred on August 23, 2011.  A mountainering and rope-rigging ranger from Denali National Park, Brandon Latham, is here to help the engineers.  There will be a rappelling team that will each take a side of the monument to test the stones for soundness. Each of the marbled stones are numbered and they will use small hammers to check the stone's density, while comparing it to records that have from 1999 testing.

The World War II Memorial honors 16 million people who supported the war effort in uniform and on the home front.
