Statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.  Designed by Edouard de Laboulaye and Frederic Auguste Bartholdi from France.  Pedestal was completed using private funds.

Ellis Island Immigrant Station.  Immigrant from Ireland, Great Britain and Germany arrived in the U.S. beginning in the 1830's.  In November 1954, the station closed.  In 1965 Ellis Island became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
